Nail fungus is a condition also known as onychomycosis which usually appears on your toenails or your fingernails. It is a really common medical problem. It begins with white or yellow spots under the tip of your nail. If it goes deeper it may make your nail thicken and crumble at the edges. It affects only one or two nails, not all nails, but it is not always the case.
Nail fungus can be really painful or it may not bother you at all so you may hardly even notice it. But sometimes it can get serious causing not only pain but also cosmetic issues. The person really needs to pay attention to it and find a way to cure it with medications or naturally.
Some of the symptoms of nail fungus include fragile nails, nails distorted in shape, changes in the color of the nail, nails with no shine etc. Nail fungus is more luckily to appear in toenails than in fingernails. Toenails are confined in dark, warm and moist environment and those are the perfect conditions for nail fungus to develop. Toes usually have less blood than the other parts of the body, so the immune system cannot detect and stop the infection.
Nail fungus is a condition which cannot be cured completely with the conventional medicine. you can use some medications, such as gels, to combat the nail fungus infection, but most of the times they never completely get rid of the problem. In many cases it relapses despite the success of the initial treatment. This is often due to the fact fungus re-infect the area between the toes and the skin of the feet, leading to the reoccurrence of the infection or another form condition called athlete’s foot (tinea pedis).
Nail fungus can be cured also at home by using some natural home remedies such as apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, and hydrogen peroxide. A combination of baking soda, salt and vinegar, fresh garlic with white vinegar can also greatly help. Another common nail fungus treatment is tee tree oil. Although the natural remedies can be curative in some cases, they usually take time to show real results.
